Ecwid

Google Merchant Center problems on Ecwid

The store check reads your storefront. Fixes come with steps to paste into your pages.

How to start

Run the free store check, or create a ShieldKit account and add your store. The first full store check (up to 11 checks) is free.

The free check on the website runs 7 of the 11 checks, with no account and nothing to install.

How fixes work

  • Every problem comes with plain-English fix steps.
  • With Recovery, we write your refund and shipping policies from your answers, and draft your privacy policy and terms. You paste each one into the editor of the site your store sits in, with steps for where it goes.
  • Give the store check the address shoppers use, so it reads the pages Google reads.

Prices and hidden problems

  • Price Watch checks the prices on your product pages on Ecwid: the price Google reads against the price shoppers see, and strikethrough prices that aren’t a real discount.
  • With Google Merchant Center connected, it also compares each product with Google’s own price.
  • Free shows how many products are affected; Monitoring and Recovery list each one.
  • With Recovery, the deep check looks for causes a quick look misses: template text left on a page, social links that go to the theme maker, trust claims with nothing to back them up, urgency pop-ups and broken menu links.

You can also connect your Google Merchant Center account, read-only, to see Google’s own issues next to the store check.

Your storefront, policies and contact details are read from the site itself. Product data and product images need a product list, and your store publishes none ShieldKit can read, so they come back Not checked. Business identity runs once you connect your Merchant Center account.

Merchant Center

How a Ecwid store gets its products to Google

An Ecwid store is a storefront added into a site you already have, so the address Google indexes is your own site’s rather than Ecwid’s. That is the thing to get right before anything else: the site Merchant Center has verified and the site your store actually runs on have to be the same one.

  1. 1

In Merchant Center, verify and claim the address shoppers use to reach your store — the one on your own domain.

  2. 2

Send your products the way your setup supports: an address Merchant Center fetches on a schedule, or Google’s API.

  3. 3

Open one product page in a new browser window and check that it has its own address, its own title and its price in the page. That is what Google stores for it.

What usually goes wrong on Ecwid

  • The store check reads your page before any script runs

Your storefront is drawn into the page by a script. ShieldKit reads the page as it arrives and does not run that script, so whatever the script adds afterwards is not in what it read. Give the check the address shoppers use, and keep each policy and your contact details on a page of their own rather than only inside the store widget.

  • Policies go on the site, not inside the store

Add a page per policy in the editor of the site your store sits in, publish it, and link each in your footer. These are site pages, so it is the same job whichever platform hosts them.

How to fix a missing refund policy
  • Your store’s address and your verified site

If Merchant Center has one address verified and your store runs on another — a subdomain, or an address Ecwid hosts — then Google is checking a site your shoppers don’t use.

How to fix mismatched business information
  • Contact details a shopper can see

An email address or a phone number in the footer of the site, visible without signing in. One method is enough.
